Fun Reads

Hey everyone!  Happy Thanksgiving!!  Before continuing with the post, I would like to write a little list of things I am thankful for:

  • My jack russel, Andy, who pretends to listen to me and entertains me with his cute little ways... he tucks himself in sometimes and it always brings a big grin onto my face.
  • Having food always available and a home, basic things we often overlook, but actually mean so much to us.
  • A loving family that teaches me and brings so much happiness into my life.
  • Lastly, friends.  Without my friends I don't know what I would do.
Onward to one of my favorite book series!  The Clique by Lisi Harrison was something I found out about in the middle of sixth grade, I think.  I have read the series multiple times and I just started reading it once again.  I'm not going to spoil anything in case you want to check them out, but I will give a little description.  The series is about five girls, four of them are growing up in Westchester County, New York and go to an exclusive private school.  The last character, Claire, is the new girl.  She was brought up wearing GAP, unlike the other girls who lounge around in cashmere and toss last seasons Prada bag out.  Each book is somewhere around 200 pages, so they are pretty quick reads.  The books go through all of their drama and fights.  There is a movie, but I prefer the books.  If you have watched Gossip Girl, I think that is very similar to The Clique
I hope you check them out and enjoy the branding and madness!

Christmas List 2011

Hey everyone!
Lately, I have been brainstorming a list of what I would like for the holidays.  Wow, there are so many things out there, what to choose?  My newest print obsession is fair isle, which is totally Christmas themed so it's perfect!  I saw these adorable socks, vest, and sweaters while I was window Internet-window shopping about a week ago:
The sweaters and vest are from here.  The socks are from here and here.
Fawn Fairisle Socks

I love the reindeer fair isle socks from Topshop!  Their just the cutest. (:  I'm usually not a vest-wearer, but I could definitely incorporate that into my wardrobe, and I've been taking fashion risks and expressing my true sense of fashion a lot more lately.

I also would like to try my hand at apparel making.  I like to sew, but I have only made a skirt so far.  So, for Christmas I'm asking for an adjustable Maidenform.  It's a model you can pin into and adjust its size.  It might be a total fail, but I think it would be so amazing for someone to ask you, "Where did you get that," and be able to say, "I made it!"  These little fantasies of mine....

I will probably make a part two to this, but for now I gotta go!  Hope you enjoyed!!

DIY Spa Day

Hey everyone!
Last weekend, a friend and I decided to have an unwind/ de-stress day.  We made a bunch of little "potions" and hoped for good results. (:  In about half an hour we had concocted a facial, nose treatment, lip scrub, and a hand/foot scrub.
Out of these, I'm pretty sure the pumpkin "facial" and raspberry/mint nose treatment didn't do anything except irritate our skin.  Maybe I missed the benefits, but as far as I can tell there weren't any.  However, we made a brown sugar lip scrub that was AMAZING.  It felt so so good, tasted so sweet (I didn't eat it, just got a little on the inside of my lips while I was moving it around to exfoliate.) and was really easy to make.
To make the lip scrub combine brown sugar and olive oil in a small bowl.  This doesn't require very much product, so just make what you think you will use. (We made too much of everything!)
The hand/foot scrub was really great also.  My friend's mom made it, but I'm pretty sure it was just white sugar and olive oil.  The sugar feels really good while you have it on, then when you wash the scrub off the olive oil leaves hands perfectly moisturized and so very very soft!
Here are some pictures of our little creations:

Raspberry cucumber water, yum (:
I hope you are inspired to have your own diy spa day now!  Even if some of the mixtures were a total flop, it was a fun and cheap little activity for the day.

Bedroom decor

Hi everyone!  I have been working on getting my room all redecorated and put together so I figured I would share some of my tips.  First of all, don't ever count Ross out!  Some days when I walk in there I can't find a single thing I would buy, but other days it's packed!  Over the summer I realized they have a pretty great room decorating section.  So far I found a ton of stuff, like wall hangings, bed sheets, and an eiffel tower wire model I use as an earring rack.

I've been on a black and white kick lately so everything I pick it out is either a black and white print, black, or white.  Zebra print was a favorite of mine last year, so maybe that's when I got sucked in to my two tone palette.  I have also started to love the color red, which is weird because I have always hated it since I was little.

Moving on... another thing is make sure to think about the small things.  Just because you want to change the look of your room mean you need to spend a ton of money on furniture.  I focused on accent pieces to make my statement, like changing out my bedding and adding a zebra print rug.

Another thing to watch out for is over doing it, if you like polka dots then you can incorporate the print very easily into your decor through pillows and throws, but you don't need to plaster the print onto everything.  I think a nice mixture with balance is key.

My last tip is: think about what you're going to do with it before you buy it!!!  Every time I walk in to a store I see different benches and seats I could put in my room, but with a little control I visualize my room and think about if I have any room for the item.  99 percent of the time it's a "No Morgan, put it back," and if I did get the seat I would probably just have a pretty chair in the middle of my floor, so for me planning is essential.

I hope I gave you some ideas on cheaper ways to revamp your space!  Bye (:
